Disney is making a BIG change to hotel room reservations
Disney has made a BIG change to room-only reservations. Previously, customers could book their hotel room 500 days in advance. As of August 19, 2022, this will no longer be an option.
This change means that customers will only be able to book a hotel room during the same period that the room and ticket packages are available for booking. Many customers would book a room well in advance as a reserved space, then cancel it and rebook their vacation when the room and ticket packages come out. This change will close that loophole by leveling the playing field for all guests to have a first-come, first-serve basis at the resort hotel of their choice.
Despite the fact that many used the room-only option simply as a placeholder, many did not. Annual pass holders and locals who wanted a stay but haven’t visited the theme parks often book rooms without tickets (although it can be said that pass holders have indeed already purchased their tickets through their pass purchase). Disney has reported at least 75% occupancy (and often more) this year, making these rooms in high demand. It makes sense that Disney would prefer these rooms to be reserved for guests booking packages.
Currently, plans are available until December 31, 2023, which means the change won’t really be noticed until after the first of the year. After January 1, 2023, however, packages for the following year will no longer be available. Disney usually releases the packages in late spring or early summer. The past five years have seen forfeits between June 8 and June 24. That means anyone looking to book a Disney Resort hotel room for 2024 will have to wait a bit longer.
