This retired train is a permanent luxury hotel on a bridge overlooking Kruger National Park
If you really want to enhance your sightseeing getaway with unique, high-level accommodation, the Kruger Shalati could be your ally. Known as the “train on the bridge” since its opening in 2020, the train is perched on a bridge over the Sabie River. The 31 rooms include both 24 Train Carriage Suites and seven Bridge House Suites, which are not located on board but in a garden next to the bridge.
In the 1920s, guests traveling to the iconic wildlife sanctuary would park overnight in the same spot where this renovated train now rests permanently. The main part of the hotel is next to the bridge and the river, where there are two of the three swimming pools, restaurants, a reception and an arrival lounge. The third pool overlooks the Sabie River, providing visitors with an infinity pool experience like no other. The spa, you ask? It comes to your room, with manicures, pedicures, massages, facials and more available by reservation.
